Book Review: American Royals

American Royals (American Royals, #1)
Taken from Goodreads

Title: American Royals
Author: Katharine McGee
Format: Paperback, 448 pages
Publishing date: September 3rd, 2019
Publisher: Random House Books for Young Readers

Summary from Goodreads:

What if America had a royal family?

When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne.

As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America's first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling.

Nobody cares about the spare except when she's breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn't care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her.

And then there's Samantha's twin, Prince Jefferson. If he'd been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.

Review (87 words):

This was the perfect quick and juicy quarantine read, even for someone like me who isn't the biggest contemporary lit fan. This book held my interest with drama, romance and mean girls from the very first page. I loved the rich royal world that McGee imagines, and every character is well rounded. In fact, you begin to root for even the people that you really aren't supposed to root for. The cliffhanger that this book ends on gutted me, and I need the next book like yesterday.

Rating:

5/5 Stars

See you next time friends,
Marianne

In my year long break from blogging, I certainly spent a whole lot of time searching for THE BOOK. I'm sure you all know what I mean. I mean the book that literally makes you laugh out loud, and tear up, the book that will not leave your mind no matter how many books you read afterwards. And friends, I think I have found it (at least for the time being). Keep in mind that I am calling this post my best READ of 2020, not BOOK, because I am aware that this book was published in 2019. What can I say, I am a little late to the party of critical acclaim that this book seemed to have garnered!
